Why we love this piece

This is one of three new prints using text and texture Anne made for Twyla. Each features digitally manipulated pages from her handwritten journal successively framed as if zooming out using a progression of photographic steps.  The title refers to literal square dancing, a dance form for carefree social intermingling. Yet we can’t help but read the title as a play on words that references the nesting white and yellow geometry and the red lines keeping time.

Anne Sherwood Pundyk
Born: New York, NY|Lives:

New York, NY

Anne Sherwood Pundyk is a conceptual artist who makes abstract paintings charged with the essence of her experiences creating collaborative performance and publication projects. She was born in New York City, where she still lives, and has a studio in Mattituck on the North Fork of Long Island. Color narrates the emotion in Anne’s work, which navigates spontaneous paint pourings, written outpourings, and improvised digital imagery using an interplay of open-ended geometric patterns. Anne has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions from New York to Athens, she has performed at MoMA PS1 and created a feminist intervention for the 2014 Whitney Biennial. Her work is in many private and institutional collections including Barclay’s Bank, New York; Luciano Benetton Foundation, Treviso; Marriott International, Inc. and the personal collections of Katie Couric and Cy Twombly.
