Robert Standish manipulates blanket-like layers of paint with handmade straight edges and palette knives in hypnotic patterns.

In a departure from his well known photorealism, in 2012 Standish began a series of paintings titled “Orbs” after lying in bed one night thinking of other worlds. The concept and process for creating this body of work was significantly influenced by his interest in mass consciousness, states of feeling, desire and spirituality. With the Orbs paintings, he starts with a base of titanium white or black and pushes layers of paint across the surface.

About the Artist

Robert Standish is an American painter whose organic process explores the emotive effects of color, shape, and texture. Inspired by the color-field painters and Abstract Expressionism, Standish’s free-flowing use of paint is his way of interpreting metaphysics and theology through various compositions.
