Artist Louise Belcourt represents both city and country landscapes via abstract, sculptural cubes and “mounds” in cool-toned palettes.

Belcourt creates her own unique style in which she meshes landscape and abstraction in color block paintings of cubes and mounds. The results are complex paintings with depth and unity, but also disruption and strain. Dominated by crisp blues and greens, a work might equally reference a rural Canadian village or a city center. All of her paintings, titled “Mounds” and numbered sequentially, are what she refers to as “paintings of sculptures of landscapes.”

About the Artist

Louise Belcourt gets in touch with her own feelings by looking beyond herself, often into nature. Inspired by the outdoors, she splits her time between a barn in Québec and her studio in Brooklyn with a view of the Williamsburg Bridge spanning the East River.
