New York, NY
Lauren uses graphite and paper to explore notions of materiality, creating dynamic works that exist somewhere between works on paper and sculpture. She pushes the materials beyond their traditional use, forming precarious works that represent a moment frozen in time. The act of folding paper strengthens its structure but weakens the surface, which allows Lauren to physically manipulate the work until she strikes the necessary balance. Lauren was born and raised in New York, and received her B.A. in Painting and Drawing from Bennington College in Vermont. She has had solo and two-person exhibitions in New York City, Brooklyn, Miami and Brazil and her work has been included in numerous group shows from New York to Istanbul. Lauren received the AOL and Chuck Close 25 for 25 Grant Award in 2010, was a selected recipient for The Drawing Center's Open Sessions program in 2014, and was a FID Prize finalist in 2016. Her work resides in numerous private and public collections.
