Why we love this piece

The San Diego Museum of Art (SDMA) commissioned Jet to create a mural for Art Alive, an annual fundraiser and floral exhibition that features over 100 floral interpretations of famous works of art. Twyla is proud to partner with the SDMA and Jet to exclusively offer a limited edition print of the mural, with a portion of proceeds benefitting SDMA's educational programs.

Jet Martinez

Jet Martinez  lives and works in Oakland and San Francisco, California, where he is currently the art director for the Clarion Alley Mural Project (CAMP) in the Mission District. Jet received his B.F.A in Painting and Printmaking from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2001 and studied Spanish Literature at the University of Colorado, Boulder. Jet's paintings reinterpret the Mexican folk art of Amate paintings, which depict birds and other animals within bright botanical scenery. He begins with a traditional rendering, and then integrates his own visual language into the work. Though stylized in a flat, graphic manner, these static images burst to life through Jet's vibrant use of color.
