Why we love this piece
James's combines discarded paintings with his own hyper-realistic portraiture style, resulting in surreal and uncanny scenes replete with beauty, seduction and a pervasive sense of calm.
James Gortner
Born: Orange County, CA|Lives:

New York, NY

James Gortner was born in Orange County, California and studied in Hawaii before receiving his MFA from Columbia University in 2010. He currently keeps a studio in the MANA Contemporary art space in New Jersey. James's works are constellations of people and places he finds seductive: bohemians and fortune tellers in mystic and spiritual settings.
