Deeply inspired by the works of Basquiat, David created this likeness as an homage to the late artist. This figurative piece is a slight departure from his other works dominated by linear structures. The subtle shift in tones gives life and weight to the otherwise minimalistic portrait.
New York, NY
David Paul Kay is a New York City-based self-taught artist and muralist. His art practice is informed by his upbringing in the former Republic of Georgia and the tension between the ideals of the former Soviet Union and Western democracy. In 2008, David fled from conflict-ridden Georgia to New York, where he was inspired by the influential works of Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
