Why we love this piece

A fantasia of flora and fauna, this work is resplendent in impeccably made lilies, birds and butterflies bathed in brilliant gradations of ruby and emerald. An image of a skull, the tantric symbol of enlightenment, subtly emerges in the foreground adding depth and meaning. Influenced by Buddhist teachings on Appearance and Great Emptiness, Christina's work is about tantric energy and embodiment. With the gradated backgrounds, the artist pays homage to Hokusai’s woodblock prints, an early precursor to today’s digital printmaking process.
