RATIO by Twyla
Debuting at OFFSITE, RATIO by Twyla was created in collaboration with Sight Unseen as Twyla’s first limited edition wallpaper line. For the installation, four contemporary painters were selected to translate the photographs of four popular architectural photographers into their own artistic wallpaper designs. The result is RATIO — a collection of meticulously crafted avant-garde wallpapers that extend paintings beyond the canvas and onto a wall.

VISHAL MARAPON x JESSALYN BROOKS
Inspired by Vishal’s sense of color and composition in addition to her favorite subject matter, Jessalyn Brooks created a figurative and artistic wallpaper that commands a room. Jessalyn was drawn to the familiar light and sun-bleached color in Fragments, which was shot in Los Angeles, her hometown.

By turning the focus away from individual subjects and towards elements of urban design, Vishal redefines traditional notions of street photography and calls attention to the complex geometry of architecture. Through his lens, elements from buildings to door frames transform from the mundane into dynamic forms and patterns.

MATTHIEU VENOT x HOLLISTER HOVEY
Hollister was tasked with transforming Matthieu’s photograph, Mint Up, into a wallpaper design for the collection. “When looking at Matthieu’s photographs, you’re transported into a deco dream world of sherbet drenched architectural perfection,” says Hollister. She describes her wallpaper design as a sorbet cityscape at sunset.

MATTHIEU VENOT
Matthieu is a self-taught photographer who transforms architectural forms into geometric images that border on abstract. Clear skies and pastels are signature elements of his whimsical photographs, which the French artist captures during midday walks when the sun is at its peak. His images of buildings champion defined form and color over an objective sense of representation.

CLEMENTE VERGARA x KARINA BANIA
When setting out to transform Clemente’s photograph, Marble Hall, into a wallpaper, Karina was moved by the striking angles and shapes and the softness of the light. She then tied her own visual language to the process, breaking down the architectural elements into forms recurrent in her own practice, such as the thin lines of the handrail and the half-moon shapes of light.

TEKLA EVELINA SEVERIN x DANIELLE ROMERO
Danielle’s interpretation of Tekla’s photograph, A View, converges the organic element of the water with the orderly framing of the window to create a simple and subtly detailed design. The texture of the mortar used to prep the canvas plays an equally important role as the linework, resulting in wallpaper that feels traditional and earthy yet modern and polished.
